The altar frontal reproduces the Shroud supported by angels in memory of its presence since 1578 in the chapel of the ducal palace. On the cymatium, between angels, Veronica is depicted, a posthumous work by Francesco Marsaglia (1784). The entire iconographic apparatus leads us to reflect on the sacrifice of Christ, true God, true man, dead (the cross) and risen (the Shroud, sign of resurrection).
In the lateral niches we found two statues representing: on the left, Saint Michael the Archangel defender of the faith, as described in the books of Daniel and the Apocalypse.
“Protegam destera mea”, may my right hand protect you (Exodus 33): where it is said that God sends Moses an angel after Sinai as a guide to the promised land; on the right, the guardian angel a whom a child goes to in search of protection. “Ero custos tuus”, I will be your guardin (Gen 28).
